Seasonal Tips
Green Grass Year-Round???
The Benefits of overseeding. Overseeding is very common for gold courses and sports fields, but isn't used
frequently for residential and commercial properties around the country. Overseeding
is usually thought of as seeding a cool-season grass over a warm-season grass
to provide green cover during the colder months or to seed bare or worn spots
on a residential or commercial property.
There are certain warm-season grasses that turn brown and dull after a frost
or during cool winter days. The question is why should we live with brown grass
when it turns cold outside? Well, we don't have to! Lawns that are mixtures
of warm and cool-season grasses, splotchy throughout the winter season, are also
candidates for overseeding.
When to Overseed? Overseeding is best done in the fall season, when the days are still warm but
not steamy hot and the nights are cool but not frost yet. Overseeding can also
be done in Spring through summer. You want to make sure the seed stays moist
from the point of seeding to germination. Different seeds range in length of
time for germination, averaging 10-15 days. As a rule of thumb, we like to see
a firm 4 weeks for germination and noticeable results. So if your planning that
backyard outing or wedding, we recommend scheduling for your overseeding atleast
4 weeks prior to the big event. Let us help you boost the thickness and green
of your lawn!
